BEST MOBILE PHONES UNDER 10000 IN INDIA

Expensive smartphones are often more interesting from a feature and specification viewpoint, but the real volumes flow in the budget segment. With mobile data becoming more affordable, many more Indians can now afford to get onto the smartphone bandwagon. These days, even affordable smartphones come with all of the features you’d expect to see on more expensive devices, including high-resolution screens, good cameras, fingerprint sensors and 4G connectivity. We’ve put together a list of some of the best affordable smartphones - priced at under Rs. 10,000 - that you can buy today.

Although there have been some interesting recent launches such as the Realme 3, some of best options in this price category have been around for a few months already. We’ve compiled a list of the best smartphones you can buy today at under Rs. 10,000, which includes options from brands such as Asus, Nokia, Honor, Lenovo and Infinix, to name a few. We’ve restricted this list to phones priced at between Rs. 7,000 and Rs. 10,000, and have been reviewed by us here at Gadgets 360.

Take a look at our picks for the best phones under Rs. 10,000 below.

  1. Realme 5
The Realme 5 features an updated crystal pattern on the back and retains the polycarbonate build and lamintaed plastic back panel of its predecessor. The phone has is a little heavy at nearly 200g and features a big 6.5-inch HD+ display. The low resolution isn't a huge issue as colours and brightness are still quite good. The Realme 5 has a slot on the side for two Nano-SIM cards and a dedicated slot for a microSD card.

It runs on ColorOS 6.0.1, which features a flatter and simpler looking interface, closer to stock Android 9 Pie. You get a bunch of cutomosation options too such as gestures and shortcuts. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 665 SoC and comes in three varaints. The top-end version which we reviewed has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. App and gaming performance is good and the phone doesn't heat up too much.

The Realme 5 has four cameras at the back, which is the first phone to have such an arrangement under Rs. 10,000. Besides the primary camera and depth sensor, Realme has also added a wide-angle and a macro lens, which are useful. The 13-megapixel selfie camera also has electronic stabilisation for videos. Overall, the cameras perform well under good light but struggle to capture good detail in low light.

The Realme 5 has a 5000mAh battery, which easily lasts for a day and half or even more on one charge. Unfortunately, fast charging isnt supported. Overall, the Realme 5's base variant (3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage) offers the best value at Rs. 9,999 but even the 128GB version at Rs. 11,999 is still good value, considering the overall package.

Realme 5 Specifications

2.Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S

The Redmi Note 7S is a budget smartphone from Xiaomi that sits between its Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. Xiaomi has kept the design identical, hence it is hard to distinguish between these three smartphones. The Redmi Note 7S has a 6.3-inch full-HD+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. We liked that the display had good viewing angles and was bright enough to be legible when outdoors.

Xiaomi has opted for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC to power the Redmi Note 7S and it does deliver a lag-free experience. Our unit had 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, a lower variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage is also available at a lower price.

Just like other Xiaomi smartphones, this too runs on MIUI. Our unit was running MIUI 10.3 on top of Android 9.0. There are a few customisations that are useful but we also encountered spammy notifications. The camera setup is different compared to the Redmi Note 7 as it gets a 48-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.  At the front, it has a 13-megapixel selfie shooter. Overall, the Redmi Note 7S offers good camera performance.

Xiaomi has managed to pack in a 4,000mAh battery in the Redmi Note 7S which offers good battery life. The Redmi Note 7S is a good smartphone but you can consider the Redmi Note 7 and the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 as direct alternatives. If you don't mind spending a little extra, you can consider the Redmi Note 7 Pro.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S SpecificationsDisplay 6.30-inch, 1080x2340 pixelsProcessor Qualcomm Snapdragon 660RAM 3GBStorage 32GBBattery Capacity 4000mAhRear Camera 48-megapixel + 5-megapixelFront Camera 13-megapixel

Price:7999

3.Xiaomi Redmi Note 7

The Redmi Note 7 features a glass front and back with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on both sides. The phone feels incredibly premium, especially for its starting price of Rs. 9,999. The 6.3-inch LCD display produces decent colours and brightness level is also very good.

The Redmi Note 7 has a dewdrop notch, a notification LED in the chin and a hybrid SIM slot. It’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC which offers very good app and gaming performance. MIUI 10 still spams you with a lot of ads and promotions but you can disable most of them.

The rear 12-megapixel camera on the Redmi Note 7 captures usable daylight shots but the AI can make colours look unnatural. Low-light camera performance isn’t stellar and so is the video recording, but the selfie camera shoots decent images.

The 4000mAh battery on the Redmi Note 7 will last you a full day on a single charge and there’s fast charging support too, however that charger doesn’t come bundled in the box.

4.Samsung Galaxy M20

The Samsung Galaxy M20 is Samsung's attempt to take on Xiaomi, Realme, Honor, and Asus in the fiercely competitive low-cost market. It offers specifications that are good enough to match these rivals, plus a very modern all-screen look with a waterdrop-style notch. The Exynos 7904 processor was designed specifically for the value segment in India, and works quite well. The display is large and crisp, and battery life is very good. However, the cameras are just mediocre, and Samsung's UI is riddled with spammy ads and notifications. The Galaxy M20 will appeal to Samsung fans who are looking for great value.

Samsung Galaxy M20 Specifications
Display 6.30-inch, 1080x2340 pixels

The handset is also expected to come with other premium specifications, including a Fluid Display.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Series Gets Galaxy Note 10 Camera Features, DeX Support: Report

Update is currently rolling out to Exynos-powered devices.

Samsung is currently rolling out a software update for the Galaxy S10 series which brings Galaxy Note 10+ camera features and DeX for PC support to these smartphones. This series consists of the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and the Galaxy S10+ that were launched in India earlier this year. The devices were well received in the market and are highly sought after. These smartphones are getting new camera features from the recently launched Galaxy Note 10+ via an OTA software update.

As a part of the new software update, the Galaxy S10₹ 58,599 series is getting new camera features such as Live Focus video, Night mode for the front camera, AR Doodle and Super Steady video recording in Hyperlapse mode. The software update also brings a new focus effect Glitz from the Galaxy Note 10 series to the Galaxy S10s. The newly added live focus video feature is available for the front and rear cameras.

SamMobile has reported that the software update is currently rolling out to the update to Exynos-powered Galaxy S10 devices as an OTA along with the latest security patch. The firmware versions G970FXXU3ASIG, G973FXXU3ASIG and G975FXXU3ASIG are now rolling out for the Galaxy S10e₹ 49,999, Galaxy S10, and the Galaxy S10+₹ 73,900 respectively.

The latest software update also adds Dex for PC support on the Galaxy S10 series smartphones. This lets you access your smartphone apps from the computer without needing a separate monitor setup. Link to Windows feature which we tried out when we reviewed the Galaxy Note 10+₹ 72,843 also makes its way to the Galaxy S10 series. Dynamic Lock screen, a feature that changes the lock screen wallpaper every time the smartphone is unlocked is also a part of this update.

It looks like a staged roll-out at the moment and is currently rolling out in Germany and Switzerland. We can expect it to reach other regions as well as Snapdragon-powered devices soon.

iPhone 11 Series Has a New Hardware, Software Management System to Reduce Performance Impacts as Battery Ages: Apple

n 2017, Apple was embroiled in an iPhone slowdown saga, wherein the company admitted to slowing down old iPhone models to prevent unexpected shutdowns. The feature was meant to keep the smartphones running longer, and Apple's failure in bringing more clarity to the matter led it to initiate a battery replacement programme throughout 2018, apart from rolling out battery health information and performance throttling options in iOS. Now, Apple has released a new support document that claims that the new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max phones include a dynamic power management system that uses hardware and software to reduce performance impacts as their batteries chemically age. The company also has confirmed that the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR will get a performance management feature with iOS 13.1 update next week, but did not clarify if it would be identical to the one seen on the iPhone 11 series.

Apple says that the new built-in performance management software and hardware system integrated in the new iPhone 11₹ 64,900 series is automatic, always-on, and works to provide the best possible performance as battery ageing occurs over time. It also says that it is more advanced than the previous battery and power management methods, but battery ageing will over the course of time lead to longer app launch times, lower frame rates, reduced wireless-data throughput, backlight dimming, or lower speaker volume.

The company advises in its support document that users to check their battery health regularly by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and getting a replacement if the health gets really poor.

In a separate support document, Apple confirms that the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR are all going to get a performance management feature with the iOS 13.1 update scheduled for September 24. The company details that the feature will only work if the iPhone really requires it, and the feature is similar to the one iOS 12.1 brought to the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. It adds, "The effects of performance management on these newer models may be less noticeable due to their more advanced hardware and software design."

“It works by looking at a combination of the device temperature, battery state of charge, and battery impedance. Only if these variables require it, iOS will dynamically manage the maximum performance of some system components, such as the CPU and GPU, in order to prevent unexpected shutdowns. As a result, the device workloads will self-balance, allowing a smoother distribution of system tasks, rather than larger, quick spikes of performance all at once. In some cases, a user may not notice any differences in daily device performance. The level of perceived change depends on how much performance management is required for a particular device,” the support page explains.

Realme X2 Will Have a 4,000mAh Battery, Company Reveals Ahead of September 24 Launch

Realme X2 will be powered by a 4,000mAh battery, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has revealed would be launched in China on September 24. It also shared a poster of X2's rear design on Chinese social network Weibo. The latest Weibo post confirms a 4,000mAh battery on the Realme X2, and reiterates the presence of the 30W VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge tech that was teased earlier this week alongside a 32-megapixel selfie camera and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC that's optimised for gaming.

The Realme XT 730G reveal showed it would have a Super AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint sensor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC, a 4,000mAh battery, 30W VOOC flash charge, a 64-megapixel quad rear camera setup. Realme Chief Marketing Officer Xu Qi Chase had earlier posted an image on his Weibo account revealing that the phone will be available in at least two colour variants.

Thanks to a TENAA listing from earlier this month, the Realme X2 specifications are expected to include a 6.4-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) display, Android 9.0 Pie with ColorOS 6.0 custom skin on top, 6GB and 8GB of RAM options, and a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

This is OnePlus 7T, official photos revealed by OnePlus CEO

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau shares images of OnePlus 7T in gradient blue shade on the OnePlus forum. The OnePlus 7T will have a smooth matte finish and a feature the circular design or the camera bump.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has shared images of the OnePlus 7T.
  • The OnePlus 7T will have the circular camera design to house the triple rear camera system.
  • The OnePlus 7T will also have a matte colour finish with a metallic sheen.\

In the past few weeks, OnePlus has been sharing details about the OnePlus TV on a weekly basis. And before the launch, we have a fair idea as to what we can expect from the first OnePlus smart TV. However, OnePlus announced yesterday that it is also going to launch the OnePlus 7T series phones and India will get to see it along with the global markets on September 26. So far, OnePlus said that it will bring the 90Hz screen from the OnePlus 7 Pro to the OnePlus 7T. Now, we have more official data.

Yes, the OnePlus CEO Pete Lau took to the OnePlus community to share the images of the upcoming OnePlus 7T flagship. And as we have seen in previously leaked renders, the OnePlus 7T is indeed going to have the huge circular camera bump design with a triple camera system. Now, Pete Lau hasn't mentioned the name of the device in this post as he only refers to this phone as the 'upcoming flagship'.

The official images show the OnePlus 7T in a gradient shade of blue that reminds us of the Nebula Blue OnePlus 7 Pro we saw earlier this year. Similar to the leaked shots, OnePlus is going for the big circular camera bump design for housing the triple camera system.

But why did OnePlus choose the circular camera module design?

According to Pete Lau, OnePlus wanted a perfect symmetrical design. "With perfect symmetry from any orientation, a circular design became the natural choice. A circle's rounded edges produce an appealing contrast against the straight lines of a smartphone's rectangular form for a seamless, balanced feel. After going through over fifty design
iterations, we think we've landed on something pretty special."

The design schematics also hint at the display retaining the waterdrop notch on the top similar to the OnePlus 7. However, the bezels seem to be thinner than what we saw on the OnePlus 7.

And as for the colour gradient, OnePlus has been pulling off stunning gradient designs since the OnePlus 6. With this year's OnePlus 7 pro, we saw the matte finish design with a metallic sheen on the Nebula variant of the OnePlus 7 Pro. OnePlus is now bringing the same to the OnePlus 7T. The 7T will have the matte finish colour gradients from the OnePlus 7 Pro and we know that we will get to see a blue variant similar to stunning Nebula Blue colour.

iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro Battery Size and RAM Revealed

If you’re an addict for smartphone facts and figures, you were likely annoyed by Apple’s avoidance of some specific iPhone 11 battery and RAM specs.

Knowing the cell in the iPhone 11 Pro lasts 4 hours longer than the iPhone XS is all very well, but it’s not the same as being able to make a direct comparison between phones of different brands. Happily for us, government regulators have ways of finding these things out.

While specific numbers for the battery capacity and RAM have been rumored before now, Chinese regulator TENAA has posted the full tech specs of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max on its website (via 9to5Mac).

From these listings, we can see that the three versions of the iPhone 11 have 3,046mAh, 3,110mAh and 3,969mAh respectively. That makes for a 168mAh, 408mAh and 695mAh increase respectively over the equivalent iPhone XR and iPhone XS/XS Max models from last year, which range from a minor boost in the iPhone 11’s case, to a substantial raise for the 11 Pro Max.

DXOMark adds tests for wide angle and night mode to its smartphone camera tests

  • If a device doesn’t have a dedicated night mode, the company will continue its usual flash tests, but the device will evidently lose out on such tests
  • The wide angle test will measure a smartphone’s performance on parameters like lens distortion, focus uniformity, field of view and more

Smartphone camera tester DXOMark has announced new testing parameters for wide angle and night camera modes on mobile phones. The company is one of the authorities for testing smartphone cameras and its scores are often quoted by companies to advertise how well their cameras perform.

The move is of course in reaction to smartphone makers adding dedicated wide angle lenses to their phones and software for shooting in low light and night scenes. According to DXOMark, the new night mode test will be an extension of its existing test for flashes on smartphone cameras. Based on their performance in its new night mode tests, the company will be changing the scores for existing smartphones.

If a device doesn’t have a dedicated night mode, the company will continue its usual flash tests, but the device will evidently lose out on such tests.

The wide angle test, on the other hand, will measure a smartphone’s performance on parameters like lens distortion, focus uniformity, field of view and more. Here, again, a phone will evidently have lower scores if it doesn’t have dedicated hardware and software for shooting wide angle images.

DXOMark also shared a list of updated scores for existing smartphones. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 5G now gets a score of 126 after the new tests, up from its earlier score of 113. The Huawei P30 Pro, on the other hand, went up from 112 to 125. The company will be updating all of its product scores over time.

Only about 10% of India’s 1.3 billion people know English. Yet, that is the only language Amazon’s digital assistant Alexa, which was launched in India two years ago, understands in the nation. That is changing today.

At a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, the e-commerce giant said Alexa now supports Hindi, a language spoken by roughly half a billion people in India, as the company looks to expand its reach in the nation. Bringing support for Hindi to Alexa was in the works for more than a year, company executives said, noting the unique contextual, cultural and content-related challenges that Hindi implementation posed.

Users can now ask Alexa their questions in Hindi, and the digital assistant will be able to respond in the same language. The feature, which will begin rolling out through a software update to Alexa devices starting today, currently only supports one voice type for Hindi. (For English, Alexa offers multiple voice types.) In the months to come, Amazon said it plans to add support for multilingual households, which will enable members of the family to interact with Alexa in the language they each prefer.

Support for local languages has proven immensely beneficial to customers in the past, Manish Tiwari, head of devices category business for Amazon India, said at the event. Amazon last year introduced support for Hindi language on its apps and website. It has seen Hindi usage grow on the site and app by six times in recent months, he said.

Rohit Prasad, VP and head scientist of Alexa AI at Amazon, said the adoption of Alexa in India has been phenomenal, though he did not share any figures. Prior to today’s update, Alexa supported some Hinglish words, a combination of English and Hindi, but the company wanted to bring full-fledged support.

“A lot of how people in India engage with their smartphones and internet services is different from those in the United States. For instance, in India, people often search the name of an actor instead of the singer or the band when they are looking for a particular song,” he added. Alexa supports variants of about 15 languages, executives said.

oday’s announcement comes months after Amazon added a Hindi voice model to its Alexa Skills Kit, enabling developers to update their skills in India to support the more popular local language. More than 500 skills on the store already support Hindi, Prasad said today. Google smart speakers gained support for the Hindi language late last year.

Amazon says it offers Alexa customers in India more than 30,000 skills across various categories, including cricket, education and Bollywood. The company’s voice assistant is available to users through its smart speakers — Echo Dot, Echo Plus and more — and over three-dozen devices from other manufacturers, including Sony, iBall and LG, the company said.

Hindi should also help Amazon’s smart speakers maintain their lead over Google’s in India. Amazon commanded the local smart speakers market with a 59% market share in 2018, according to research firm IDC. (Google launched its smart speakers in India months after Amazon. IDC has not updated its findings since March this year.)

Indian language internet users are expected to account for nearly 75% of India’s internet user base by 2021, according to a report by KPMG and Google. By same year, nine out of every 10 new internet users in the country will likely be an Indian language speaker, the report said.

Both companies are locked in a global battle to win users through their digital voice assistants. And they should be: In many markets, including India, first-time internet users are increasingly showing that they are more comfortable engaging with their phones through voice instead of typing. Search through voice queries is growing by 270% year-over-year.
